About Maya

Maya has emptied hundreds of kitchen drawers as a professional organizer, most of them in apartments and galley kitchens. The pattern rarely changes: three can openers, no good spatula, and a cabinet of containers with no matching lids. Helping clients decide what stays taught her which tools earn their space.

At Mr. Kitchen Adviser she covers kitchen tools and gadgets with Bea, and food storage and organization with Dana. She asks the questions a small kitchen forces: does it nest, does it store flat, does one good tool replace three single-use ones, and will it still look tidy in a month.

Her guides favor fewer, better things. A solid set of utensils, containers that stack, and a scale that slides into a drawer do more for a cramped kitchen than any countertop gadget.

How I test. I use each tool and organizer in a compact kitchen through regular cooking, cleaning, and putting away. I judge how well it works, how much space it takes, how it stores, and whether it stays useful after the novelty wears off. Read more about our testing process.
