Best Ninja Pressure Cooker Air Fryer Combos: Which of 4 Models Wins?

Our top pick is the Ninja Foodi 14-in-1 Smart XL (OL701), the one all-in-one that pressure cooks, air fries, and probes doneness under a single lid. We ranked the four Ninjas that both pressure cook and air fry, and the scoring is laid out in How We Rate These Models below. If you only want a fryer, every Ninja air fryer we have covered is a better starting point.

How We Rate These Models

We rate each Ninja on pressure cooking, air fry crispness, noise, cleanup, and counter footprint.

Ninja's own pressure cooker page no longer lists these Foodi combinations, so they are legacy models available through retailers. Stock and prices vary, and some listings offer renewed units.

The 4 Best Ninja Pressure Cooker Air Fryers

1. Ninja Foodi 14-in-1 Smart XL (OL701, 8 Qt): Best Overall

Best Overall

4.5/5

The OL701 is the Ninja we would buy again, because one attached SmartLid handles pressure cooking, steam-frying, and air frying with a slider and no lid swapping. The probe tracks doneness in every mode, and our whole roast chickens came out well. Air frying browned steamed potato wedges deeply, but ribs cooked unevenly and rice turned sticky.

Cleanup shows both the best and the worst of the machine. The nonstick pots rinse fast, and caked-on rice comes off in seconds, but the heating element and fan cannot be removed from the lid, so we run the Steam function for 30 minutes to loosen residue before wiping it.

Steam Crisp mode is loud, on the order of a hair dryer, and at about 25 lb and nearly 15 in tall the unit is a two-hand lift that will not fit under many cabinets with the lid open. The fan is the weak point, since some units stop working shortly after a year.

Pros

  • One integrated SmartLid, no swap lid
  • Built-in probe with 9 doneness levels
  • Inner pots and basket are dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Loud Steam Crisp mode
  • Fan reliability is a concern after about a year
  • Lid cannot be removed for cleaning
  • Tall and heavy

2. Ninja Foodi Deluxe XL 8 Qt (FD401): Best for Families

Ninja Foodi Deluxe XL (FD401)

4.3/5

Where the OL701 trades capacity for a probe, the FD401 gives up the probe for room, since its 8-qt pot and 5-qt basket hold up to a 7-lb chicken. For a family dinner we pressure cook a rack of ribs until they turn fall-off-the-bone tender, then switch to the crisping lid for Brussels sprouts, and the same combination suits chicken. Rice runs moist and sticky rather than fluffy, and air fry results are on par with dedicated air fryers.

The cleanup is where it loses points. The attached crisping lid gets greasy when food spatters and needs awkward scrubbing, the heating element cannot be removed and cakes with grease, and the basket's legs and crevices trap food. Dehydrate mode is very loud. The first failures tend to involve the fan, the power plug, or the nonstick coating separating from the bottom of the pot.

Pros

  • Roomy 8-qt pot for family meals
  • Air frying matches dedicated fryers
  • Pressure cook then crisp suits chicken well

Cons

  • Ceramic pot is hand-wash only
  • Greasy, awkward lid to clean
  • Fan and coating are early failure points

3. Ninja Foodi 11-in-1 Pro (FD302, 6.5 Qt): Best Mid-Size Pick

4.1/5

The FD302 steps down from the 8-qt models to the balanced pick for smaller households, because its 6.5-qt pot and 4.6-qt Cook & Crisp Plate fit a 5-lb chicken or a 6-lb roast without taking over the counter. It is 11-in-1, adding sous vide to the usual pressure, air fry, and slow cook modes.

In our kitchen the nonstick pot and crisper plate clean up easily, but cooking times run longer than the recipe card suggests, so we plan dinner earlier. We rank it third because our findings on it are thinner than on the models above.

Pros

  • Sous vide included at a mid-tier price
  • Dishwasher-safe pot and crisper plate
  • Fits a 5-lb chicken

Cons

  • Cook times can run long
  • No probe or Wi-Fi

4. Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 (OS301, 6.5 Qt): Best Budget Pick

4.0/5

If the FD302 is the middle pick, the OS301 is the cheapest way in, at roughly $160 at retail, and it still does the core job well. Chicken pressure cooks in 15 to 20 minutes and ribs in about 25 minutes, and both come out juicy and fall-off-the-bone tender, with room for a 5-lb chicken or a 6-lb roast.

The hinged crisping lid stays attached and out of the way while we pressure cook, but the two-lid switch has a learning curve, and at 27 lb the unit is bulky to shuffle in and out of a cabinet. The basket is tight for a family of four.

Pros

  • Lowest price of the four
  • Dishwasher-safe pot and plate

Cons

  • Tight for a family of four
  • Heavy at 27 lb
  • Two-lid switch takes practice

Ninja Pressure Cooker vs Air Fryer Lid: How the Two Modes Work

Pressure cooking seals the pot so tough cuts turn tender quickly, while air frying uses a hot fan to brown the surface, and most Ninja units need a different lid for each job. If lid-free crisping is all you need, our air fryer reviews cover simpler machines.

Warning. Always follow the manual's pressure release steps and never force a lid open while the unit is under pressure. Keep your hands and face clear of the steam vent.

Integrated Lid vs Swap Lid

The OS301, FD302, and FD401 use a swap-lid design, in which a separate, detachable pressure lid seals the pot and a hinged crisping lid attached to the unit handles air frying. The OL701 uses one attached SmartLid with a slider for pressure cook, steam-fry, and air fry modes, so there is nothing extra to store.

Decoding Ninja Model Numbers (OS301, FD302, FD401, OL701)

OS301 is the Foodi 10-in-1, FD302 is the 11-in-1 Pro, FD401 is the Deluxe XL, and OL701 is the 14-in-1 Smart XL.

How to Choose the Best Ninja Pressure Cooker Air Fryer

Tip. Measure the shelf under your cabinets first: the OL701 lid opens to about 23 in above the counter.

Capacity for Your Household

The 6.5-qt models suit one to three people, while the 8-qt models suit families and meal prep.

Cooking Functions You Will Actually Use

Most function counts are variations on a few real jobs, and pressure cook then crisp is the workhorse combination, with sous vide as the one extra worth caring about if you cook proteins gently.

Lid Design and Safety

A swap lid means two pieces to store and a habit to learn, whereas the integrated SmartLid means one piece and no swapping.

Ease of Cleaning

The pots are the easy part and the lids are the hard part, because none of the heating elements come off.

Smart Features and Probe Cooking

Only the OL701 has a probe, and none of the four has Wi-Fi.

Footprint and Counter Space

The three units we have weights for run 25 to 27 lb, so decide where it will live before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the air fryer lid for pressure cooking?

Not on the swap-lid models, where the crisping lid only crisps and the detachable pressure lid does the sealing. The OL701 SmartLid handles both, but you still slide it to pressure mode first.

Is pressure cooking faster than air frying?

Ninja says the OS301 cooks up to 70% faster than traditional cooking, and pressure cooking wins for tough cuts such as ribs. Air frying is for browning, so the two modes do different jobs.

What do I need to add or thaw before cooking?

Pressure cooking needs at least 1 cup of liquid on the FD401 and OL701, and 2 cups suits most FD401 recipes. Air frying frozen fries or nuggets works without thawing.

Can the crisping lid go in the dishwasher, and which pots can?

No, because the heating element is attached to the lid on every model, so it only gets wiped clean. The pots and plates on the OL701, OS301, and FD302 are the dishwasher-friendly ones, while the FD401 asks you to hand-wash its pot.

Can a Ninja pressure cooker air fryer replace my oven?

For a chicken or roast up to about 7 lb, yes, but sheet-pan batches still need an oven.

How long is the warranty, and what do 12-in-1 and 9-in-1 mean?

The FD302 carries a one-year warranty, and we could not confirm terms for the others. The 12-in-1 and 9-in-1 labels are two counts for the same FD401, because current retail listings tally the functions differently than older ones.

Final Verdict

Buy the OL701 if you want the most capable Ninja. For a tight budget or meals for one or two, the OS301 handles the same core tasks for roughly $160. Families wanting the largest pot for less than the OL701 should consider the FD401 and plan to wash its pot by hand.

If You Are Not Set on Ninja

Instant Pot makes the Duo Crisp in 6 Qt and 8 Qt, plus the Duo Crisp Ultimate at 6.5 Qt. Nuwave makes the Duet, a 6-qt model with a probe, but they are not Ninja products and we did not rank them here.
