We Tested 12 Small Juicers and These 5 Earned a Counter Spot

We tested 12 small juicers in our test kitchen, from a $44.99 centrifugal that juices straight into a to-go cup to a $599 hands-free cold press. We ran them through weeks of daily batches of celery, kale, carrots, apples, and beets. Then we kept the promising ones on our counter and watched what broke and what earned its spot.

Every machine was scored on the same five things: juice yield and pulp dryness, cleanup time, noise, footprint, and build quality. We weighed the juice, timed the rinses, and measured the counter space each unit claimed. Five made the cut, ranked below.

1. Nama J2 Cold Press Juicer - Best Overall Small Juicer

Key takeaway. The quietest, highest-yield juicer we tested, with a hands-free hopper.

Nama J2 Cold Press Juicer

4.7/5 9.4 Excellent

The Nama J2 Cold Press Juicer is the best small juicer we tested this year, and the hands-free hopper is why. We loaded a whole celery-cucumber-parsley-orange recipe, walked away, and came back to about 9 oz of bright juice with much drier pulp; the same combo gave us under 5 oz on an older centrifugal. It is also the quietest juicer we have run, quiet enough for someone to sleep 12 feet away.

Pros

  • Hands-free hopper takes a whole recipe, no pushing
  • Highest yield and driest pulp
  • Quietest juicer we tested
  • 15-year warranty covers all parts

Cons

  • No feed chute; everything must be chopped first
  • Chamber needs reloading after a glass
  • Too tall for under-cabinet storage
  • $599 commitment

The trade-offs start with prep: no feed chute, everything chopped into a chamber that holds about a glass, and no room under standard cabinets. The chamber wobbles a little on beets and carrots, which the manual says is normal, and the rubber pulp-outlet gasket can pop off, jamming the outlet with celery strings. Cleanup is quick if you rinse right away. The build is all plastic, though it feels sturdy.

2. Magic Bullet Mini Juicer - Best Budget Small Juicer

Key takeaway. The best cheap way to juice one glass of soft fruit, if you can stand the noise and the build gamble.

Magic Bullet Mini Juicer

3.7/5 7.4 Good

Where the Nama asks for $599 and a reload, the Magic Bullet Mini Juicer costs $44.99 and fits in a lunch bag. It is the cheapest way we found to juice a single glass: produce down the 2-inch chute, juice out the spout into the 16-oz cup, and the twist-on lid makes it a to-go glass. Soft fruit juices well.

Pros

  • Unbeatable $44.99 price
  • Juices into a 16-oz to-go cup
  • Tiny 7 x 6-inch footprint
  • Top-rack dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Loud; the jackhammer kind of loud
  • Weak on leafy greens
  • Foamy juice, some yield left in the pulp
  • Build quality is a gamble

The catches are loud and real. It is genuinely noisy, the jackhammer-adjacent kind of loud, and leafy greens are the weak spot: kale and spinach come out poorly. Juice comes out foamy and thick, and some of it stays in the pulp. Build quality is a gamble: some units fail after a handful of uses, others keep going. Clear plastic parts stain pinkish from beets, and the strainer needs extra rinsing.

3. Tribest Shine Compact Multi-Batch - Best Compact Slow (Masticating) Juicer

3.0/5 6.0 Fair

If the Magic Bullet is the budget speed option, the Tribest Shine is the slow-juice opposite: the smallest footprint on our counter at 6.1 x 7.2 inches. When it works it is lovely, quiet and smooth, with a gravity-fed hopper and a body that packs into a suitcase. On paper this is the small-kitchen cold press most people want.

Pros

  • Smallest footprint we measured: 6.1 x 7.2 inches
  • Quiet, smooth slow-juice quality
  • 23-oz juice jug and continuous feed
  • Packs small enough for a suitcase

Cons

  • Reliability questions from our testing
  • Hard to take apart when slick
  • Pulp ejector clogs on celery fiber
  • Hand-wash only; parts wedge
  • Weak on leafy greens

Reliability is the honest reason it sits at 3.0 stars. Our test unit's auger rod wedged during use, and the machine was nearly impossible to take apart once slick with juice. We also saw a drive socket strip after one use and a unit dead on arrival. Assembly takes practice, the pulp ejector clogs on celery fiber, and leafy greens are weak. It runs 20 minutes before a 30-minute rest. Buy it for the footprint and the quiet; keep expectations realistic on longevity.

4.3/5 8.6 Very Good

Where the Tribest struggled with reliability, the Ninja NeverClog Cold Press Juicer delivered the most consistent cold press results in our lineup, and its specialty is leafy greens. Kale and spinach crushed into pulp so dry we held the container upside down without a drop. Cleanup is the standout: parts rinse clean with no scrubbing, and everything but the base is dishwasher safe.

Pros

  • Best leafy-green performance of our picks
  • Driest pulp; container holds upside down clean
  • Fast, no-scrub cleanup, dishwasher safe
  • Reverse program clears most jams

Cons

  • Clogs despite the NeverClog name
  • Narrow feed opening; lots of chopping
  • Plastic chute and strainers cracked in our testing
  • Occasional squeak on firm produce

The name oversells the "NeverClog" part: it does clog, most often on oranges and leafy greens. The feed opening is small, so produce needs cutting into pieces around 40 mm. Build quality gave us pause: we saw a crack in the plastic feed chute near the pulp spout, the replacement runs about $70, and plastic strainers cracked under clogging stress. Noise is mostly quiet, with an occasional squeak. It is also at Kohl's.

5. Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus - Best Small Centrifugal Juicer

4.2/5 8.4 Very Good

All four picks above squeeze slowly. The Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus takes the opposite route: a 1000W centrifugal that spins at 6500 to 13,000 RPM and turns a whole apple into juice in seconds. The 3.5-inch chute takes fruit with no pre-cutting, and the 70-oz pitcher keeps juice drinkable for three days.

Pros

  • Whole apples in seconds, no pre-cutting
  • 70-oz pitcher stores up to three days
  • Fastest, highest-volume pick here
  • Often discounted well below list

Cons

  • Biggest and heaviest unit on our list
  • Hand-wash only; plastic hazes in the dishwasher
  • Stubborn jug lid
  • Trapped juice when pouring

For a "small" juicer it is the biggest thing on our list: 13.6 lb, with a huge pulp container. Cleaning is the biggest complaint, and we see both sides: some sessions rinse clean in minutes, others run long, and the manual warns against the dishwasher. The jug lid is stubborn, and the drain spout traps an ounce or more when you pour. Noise is typical centrifugal at about 82 dB, and it is often discounted well below $329.95. See it at Williams Sonoma and Breville's product page.

How We Tested Small Juicers

We tested 12 small juicers in our test kitchen over several weeks of daily batches: the five picks above plus seven more compact models below. Every machine juiced the same recipes, starting with a celery-cucumber-parsley-orange combo as the yield baseline.

We weighed yields, judged pulp by holding the container upside down, timed cleanup, checked noise at arm's length, and measured each footprint. We also watched for durability problems, which is how the Ninja's cracked chute and the Tribest's stripped drive socket landed in the reviews.

We bought all 12 machines with the test kitchen's own budget, which is funded by the affiliate income this site earns. We do not accept pay-to-play money from brands, so every result in this guide reflects what we measured in our kitchen, not what a manufacturer paid us to say.

What to Look for in a Small Juicer

These are the five things we scored, and the ones you will feel every morning.

Centrifugal vs. masticating (small-juicer context)

Centrifugal juicers spin a fast blade and strainer, usually 6500 to 13,000 RPM, shredding produce and flinging out the juice. They are fast, and a wide chute means whole fruit, but the juice is frothier and they run loud. Cold press (masticating) juicers crush slowly, usually below 120 RPM, squeezing instead of spinning: more yield, drier pulp, less noise, but more chopping. In small kitchens the masticating type usually wins.

Counter footprint, storage, and portability

We measured every unit on our counter, and width is only half the story. The smallest footprint was the Tribest Shine at 6.1 x 7.2 inches; the Breville spanned 13.1 x 8.7 inches. Height surprises people: our tallest pick will not slide under standard cabinets. If it lives in a cabinet when idle, measure assembled height.

A small juicer standing on a kitchen counter beneath a standard upper cabinet, with a gap between the machine top and the cabinet bottom that is clearly too small to fit the unit.
Height matters as much as width for storage.

Chute size and prep work

A wide chute saves real time every day. The Breville's 3.5-inch chute took whole apples with no cutting, the Magic Bullet's 2-inch chute means chopping larger fruit, and the Ninja's narrow opening wants pieces around 40 mm. The Nama J2 has no chute at all. Prep is the hidden cost of juicing.

Two juicer feed chutes side by side, one wide enough for a whole apple and one narrow, with a halved apple and a knife on the counter between them showing the prep difference.
Chute size decides how much chopping you do before you start.

Cleaning and dishwasher-safe parts

Rinse right after the last pour and most of these clean up in minutes. The Ninja and Magic Bullet attachments are top-rack dishwasher safe; the Breville's plastic will haze in the dishwasher, and the Tribest is hand-wash only. The pulp outlet is the part to watch: fiber collects there.

Noise level

If you juice before work or near a sleeping household, noise decides the pick. The Nama J2 was the quietest machine we ran. The Ninja is mostly quiet, the Breville measures about 82 dB, and the Magic Bullet is the loudest, the jackhammer kind of loud.

Small Juicer FAQs

Are small juicers as powerful as full-size juicers?

Power is the wrong question; type is the right one. The Nama J2 uses a modest 200W motor at 50 RPM and squeezes more juice from the same produce than a full-size centrifugal does. Small machines trade away batch size and duty cycle, which only matters for big batches.

Do small juicers handle leafy greens?

Masticating models are the class for leafy greens, and most centrifugal ones are not: the Ninja NeverClog was the stand-out on kale and spinach, while the Magic Bullet Mini and the Tribest Shine both came up short. Whole fruit keeps the fiber and stays more filling, which is what Mayo Clinic and a 2025 review in Nutrition Bulletin (full study) both conclude: juice supplements whole produce, it does not replace it.

How much counter space does a small juicer need?

About a foot of counter, sometimes less, and most small juicers live happily next to a coffee maker. Height is the detail that bites: check the gap under your cabinets before you buy, because one of our picks simply will not fit there.

How do I clean a small juicer?

Start within minutes of the last pour, and rinse the pulp outlet and strainer first, because fiber dries fast and turns into a scraping job. Give the stainless mesh filter a weekly scrub with a small brush to keep yields steady.

Why do some small juicers cost so much?

Because "small" describes the footprint, not the engineering. A slow masticating auger needs tight tolerances and quality materials to press steadily without stalling. You are also paying for yield and longevity: the best-built machines ship with much longer warranties.

Bottom Line

If we had to buy one juicer for a small kitchen tomorrow, it is the Nama J2 when the budget allows. On a tighter budget, the Magic Bullet Mini is the honest value pick for single glasses, with the caveat that you are betting on the build. Choose the Ninja for greens, and steer most buyers away from the Tribest until its reliability questions get answered. For whole-apple speed, wait for the Breville to go on sale. Whatever you pick, measure the counter and the cabinet height first; that detail decides whether a juicer earns a counter spot.
