Ingredients
  

  • 4 medium Russet potatoes Scrubbed clean, skin on
  • 3 tbsp Butter Melted
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • ½ tsp Smoked paprika Optional but recommended
  • To taste Salt
  • To taste Black pepper Freshly ground preferred
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese Shredded, sharp or mild
  • ¼ cup Bacon bits Cooked and crumbled
  • 2 tbsp Green onions Chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • 1 Oven Preheated to 400°F (200°C)
  • 1 Baking dish Large enough to hold all sliced potatoes
  • 1 Aluminum foil To cover the dish during first bake
  • 1 Sharp knife For slicing potatoes evenly
  • 1 Cutting board For slicing and prep
  • 1 Pastry brush To apply melted butter on potatoes
  • 1 Mixing bowl To mix seasoning or hold melted butter
  • 1 Measuring spoons For spices and butter
  • 1 Cheese grater If using block cheese
  • 1 Serving spatula For lifting and serving potatoes easily

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly. Leave the skin on.
  3. Slice each potato into ¼-inch thick rounds, not cutting all the way through.
  4. Place the sliced potatoes in a baking dish lined with foil.
  5. In a bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Brush the seasoned butter generously over and between potato slices.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  8. Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese and bacon bits over potatoes.
  9. Return to oven uncovered and bake another 10–15 minutes, or until golden.
  10. Garnish with chopped green onions. Serve hot with sour cream on the side.
