HexClad Hybrid Double Burner Griddle Review: Is It Worth It?

A weekend breakfast for a crowd is where a double burner griddle earns its counter space. We set the HexClad across two burners, poured pancake batter on one end, and laid bacon down on the other. The pancakes released cleanly from both a buttered side and an ungreased side, and the bacon picked up a real sear. It is a good griddle with a few caveats, and we cover them below alongside the rest of our nonstick cookware reviews.

Quick Verdict

The HexClad earns a 4.0 out of 5 from us. The hexagon surface sears bacon and burgers while still letting pancakes slide off, and cleanup is usually a rinse and a wipe. The weak points are price and flatness: a bowed base is the main durability risk, and heat across the full length of two burners is good rather than perfect.

Key takeaway. Worth it if you cook breakfast for four or more and want one surface that sears and releases. Skip it if you want the cheapest big griddle or the most even heat money can buy.

4.0/5

We poured pancakes across a buttered side and an ungreased side. Both released cleanly, and the buttered side browned a little crispier. At roughly five pounds, it sat easily across the two burners while we cooked.

We estimate its weight at about five pounds; the maker does not publish an exact figure.

What Is the HexClad Hybrid Double Burner Griddle?

It is an oversized flat griddle made to span two burners, built for pancakes, bacon, eggs, burgers, fajitas, and tortillas. The 18 x 11 inch surface gives you room to cook a full family breakfast in one go.

How the Hybrid Hexagon Surface Works

The surface is laser-etched with hexagons. Stainless steel forms the raised peaks, and TerraBond ceramic nonstick fills the valleys. The peaks do the searing and take metal utensils, while the valleys help food let go. That mix is why the pan sears bacon well and still lets pancakes slide off.

How We Tested the HexClad Double Burner Griddle

We tested it with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and burgers, and used it to reheat tortillas and quesadillas. We looked at how evenly it heated across both burners, how food released at different heat levels, and how cleanup went afterward.

We scored it on those three points and weighed the results against the hybrid surface and two-burner footprint the griddle is built around.

Performance

Heat Distribution Across Two Burners

Heat spread is good, though it may not be quite as even as All-Clad across the full length of two burners. Expect the area directly over each burner to run a touch hotter than the middle. Rotating food a few times during a long cook, or keeping delicate items like pancakes toward the center, evens things out.

Pancakes and Eggs

This is where the HexClad shines, with one catch. Release can be uneven from cook to cook: eggs and pancakes slide off with oil and moderate heat, while food can stick or stain when the pan runs hot or dry.

Tip. Preheat on low to medium and use a little oil or butter. Running lower than habit suggests keeps food releasing; high heat is where sticking starts.

Searing Bacon and Burgers

The hexagon surface gives bacon and burgers a sear while keeping the quick release. The raised center can push oil toward the edges, so cook greasy bacon with a little care or you may find a mess on the stove.

Induction and Gas Compatibility

The griddle works on any home cooktop: gas, electric, and induction. On induction it ran smoothly, and it also reheats tortillas, sandwiches, and quesadillas evenly. On a glass-top stove, check that the base sits flat (more on that below).

Cleanup and Durability

After the cooking is done, cleanup is a rinse and wipe in most cases. The surface tolerates metal utensils and scrubbing without visible damage, and HexClad markets it as dishwasher-friendly. We would still hand wash it to protect the finish.

Beyond cleanup, warping is the main durability risk. A bowed base on a glass-top stove leaves only the outer edges touching the cooktop and creates a wobble, sometimes within the first few uses on medium heat. Check the base when it arrives so you can use the lifetime warranty while it is easy to claim.

Warning. Do not run the griddle empty on high heat, and skip aerosol cooking sprays, which can build up residue on the surface. The oven limit has been quoted differently in launch and current material, so confirm it in the current care guide before putting the griddle in the oven.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Sears bacon and burgers while pancakes still release
  • Light for its size and easy to lift
  • Works on gas, electric, and induction
  • Rinse-and-wipe cleanup, metal utensils allowed
  • Lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects

Cons

  • Premium price compared with cast iron or basic nonstick
  • Warping can leave a wobble on glass tops
  • Heat is good but not quite All-Clad even
  • Release gets uneven when the pan runs hot or dry

Nonstick Coating and Safety Questions

On the safety side, HexClad agreed to a $2.5 million class settlement over its "non-toxic" and "PFAS-free" marketing, covering purchases from February 2022 to March 2024. The company denied wrongdoing, and the claim deadline has passed. For us, the practical advice is simple: keep heat low to medium and do not overheat the surface, which is good practice for any nonstick coating.

Who Should Buy It

Buy it if you cook weekend breakfast for a crowd, use an induction or mixed-fuel cooktop, and want a surface that sears food and releases it easily. Pass if you mostly cook at screaming-high heat, have a glass-top stove with a history of warping pans, or want to spend as little as possible.

HexClad vs Alternatives

Price is the biggest gap. HexClad costs several times as much as the Lodge Reversible.

Caraway

We have a full write-up of the Caraway ceramic nonstick double burner griddle if you want a pure ceramic surface without the stainless peaks.

Lodge Cast Iron Reversible

The Lodge covers two burners with a 9.5 by 16.75 inch pre-seasoned cast iron surface and flips between grill and griddle sides. It works on gas, electric, induction, oven, and campfire, and it is PFAS-free. It is smaller and heavier than the HexClad but a fraction of the cost.

Hestan and GreenPan

Our Hestan Provisions double burner griddle review covers the stainless route. We have not verified specs for a comparable GreenPan model, so we leave it out of the comparison.

Where to Buy and Price

HexClad prices the griddle at the premium end, and we have seen it for less on sale. Check the current price before you buy.

FAQ

What if food starts sticking?

Lower the heat and add a little butter or oil before changing anything else.

Will scrubbing hurt the surface?

Not in our experience. Metal utensils and scrubbing left no visible damage.

Is it oven safe?

Yes, but the stated limit differs between launch coverage and current vendor copy, so check the current care guide for the exact number.

Does it fit two burners?

Yes. The 18 x 11 inch cooking surface spans two burners on gas, electric, and induction cooktops.

Final Verdict

Two practical notes round out the review. Inspect the base when it arrives to make any warranty claim easier; if the premium price is too high, the Lodge Reversible is the better choice for breakfast on a budget.
