Three questions narrow the field quickly: how many do you feed, do you want racks or a basket, and how much counter can you give up. If you are still deciding between machines, our guide to air fryer vs convection oven explains the trade-offs.
Oven-Style vs Basket-Style
Oven-style models (the 10L, 12-quart and 14-quart) have racks, a window and a rotisserie spit. They bake, dehydrate and handle larger meals, but they are bulkier. Basket-style models are faster and simpler, which is why they suit weeknight sides. The Chefman families are TurboFry (8 Qt, with 450F Hi-Fry), TurboFry Touch (4-qt, 5-qt and 8-qt, plus a Dual 9 Qt), Crispinator (8 Qt, 7-in-1, ceramic-coated basket) and TurboX 5 Qt. The three ovens are the 10L, 12-quart and 14-quart rotisserie models.
Capacity by Household Size
One or two people do well with the 2-quart mini. A family of three to four can use the dual basket or the 10L. Five or six people want the 12-quart. Seven or more should look at the 14-quart. The 10L feels spacious for a small to moderate family but too small for a big one.
Rotisserie, Dehydrate and Preset Functions
Rotisserie and dehydrating are the reasons to buy an oven-style model. Expect a rotisserie that suits a small chicken in the 10L, and plan 45 to 50 minutes for a 4 pound bird.
Counter Space and Cleaning
Measure before you buy. The 10L is 11.8 D x 12.2 W x 14.6 H inches and weighs 14.2 pounds. The 12-quart is closer to 14.4 x 12.8 x 14.7 inches, though that figure may differ slightly by variant. Dishwasher-safe parts help, but hand wash nonstick coatings when you can, since peeling is the common complaint on the basket models.
