Best Smeg Air Fryer: Which Smeg Model Is Worth Buying?

Every family kitchen eventually asks whether a pretty appliance is worth the counter space it takes up. Smeg has only just launched its first dedicated air fryer, the AFC01, and this guide asks whether it earns its premium. For air fryers in general we cover dozens of models, but this guide sticks to what Smeg actually sells.

Quick Answer: Which Smeg Air Fryer Should You Buy?

Smeg makes one true air fryer and two bigger appliances that can air fry: the AFC01 basket, the COF01 combi oven and the MOC02 combi microwave.

Our ratings are ours; we score performance first, then capacity, noise, cleanup and kid safety.

Our clearest AFC01 test was the chip preset. We loaded 250 to 600 g, and the preset ran 27 minutes with a mid-cook shake, then delivered chips that came out underwhelming. Halloumi, vegetables, chicken thighs and fish fillets fared far better, while bulkier foods gave mixed results. It is a statement piece that also cooks. It is our top pick for couples and small households who value style and quiet, but it does not suit a family of seven.

Pros

  • Quiet in use, around 53 dB
  • Cool silicone handle, a plus with kids nearby
  • Dishwasher-safe PFAS-free ceramic basket and rack
  • Steam-assisted Juicy+Crispy mode
  • Four matte colours, including Storm Blue

Cons

  • Sized for two to three servings
  • Needs overhead clearance
  • Disappointing chip preset
  • Not yet on sale in the US

Availability needs honesty here. The AFC01 went on sale in the UK and Australia in September 2026, but it is not on sale in the US yet. A US launch is expected for January 2027 at a $299 MSRP, which could shift before it ships. The UK price is GBP 199.95. The AFC01 runs 1450W with a 40 to 200 C range, and warranty terms differ by region (see the FAQ).

Juicy+Crispy modes and the steam water tank

The AFC01 has two modes. Crispy is the standard hot-air setting. Juicy+Crispy adds steam from a 60 ml water reservoir, which is what Smeg means by "dual flavour". The idea is crispy outside, juicy inside, with little to no oil.

There are seven presets plus manual time and temperature.

7 L capacity, lift-out basket and viewing window

The basket holds 7.3 L (Smeg markets it as 7 L), but the real limit is about 1 kg of food, so a standard 1.5 kg whole chicken will not fit. Think two to three servings.

The lid has a viewing window with an integrated light, so you can check food without opening it. It is also tall and narrow, and the lid swings up, so it needs overhead clearance under cabinets. Measure before you buy.

The AFC01 is a single-purpose basket fryer; the COF01 is a full oven and is available in the US today. Frozen fries came out restaurant-quality in about 10 minutes in our tests. Pizza cooked evenly in 11 minutes. A whole chicken was the slow one at 75 minutes, and the skin finished slightly crisper than ideal. It is bigger than expected and very expensive for what it does.

Pros

  • 30 L cavity with a 0.8 L water tank
  • Ten cooking functions and 33 chef-menu recipes
  • Convection baking comes out perfect
  • Child safety lock

Cons

  • Preheats slower than a dedicated air fryer
  • No crumb tray, so cleanup takes extra effort
  • Short cord keeps it near an outlet
  • No built-in temperature probe

The COF01 draws 1800W and runs from 104 to 446 F. It lists around $1,300 at Smeg US, and retailers run lower, so street pricing moves week to week.

How its air fry setting performs

The air fry setting works well, and the lit viewing window lets you check progress without opening the door. It takes a long time to warm up and cannot double as a microwave.

It needs room: leave roughly 4 in behind it for the plug and allow clearance for heat and steam. The interior is enamel, not nonstick, and grime does not cling. The interface has a learning curve.

3. Smeg MOC02 Combi Microwave: Best for Small Kitchens

Where the COF01 is an oven that cannot microwave, the MOC02 folds air fry, grill, convection and microwave into one 27 L box. We rank it on its spec sheet rather than hands-on cooking time. It lists 2100W and nine functions, including hot-air fry, and ships with a crisp pan and air fry basket. It is a UK and EU model, with a UK price of GBP 449.95.

US shoppers should be careful: the US model appears to be the MOC12 at around $600 MSRP, though the model number and price are not final, and the MOC02 itself is not confirmed for sale in the US. Confirm the exact model number before you buy.

Is the Smeg AFC01 Worth the Price?

Price is the sticking point. At the expected $299 the AFC01 asks you to pay for design and the Juicy+Crispy steam option rather than extra capacity, and the UK price is GBP 199.95. The COF01 lists around $1,300, so the AFC01 is the cheaper way into a Smeg, provided the US price lands where announced.

Smeg vs Ninja and Cosori: Cheaper Alternatives

We have not put Ninja or Cosori numbers in this table, so the comparison below covers the Smeg models only. If price and capacity matter most, our guides to the best Ninja air fryer ovens and Cosori air fryer toaster ovens are the next stop, and the Beautiful air fryer by Drew Barrymore is the closest design-led rival.

How to Choose a Smeg Air Fryer

Capacity and countertop footprint

Match capacity to the people at your table. The AFC01 suits two to three servings; the COF01 and MOC02 hold far more but take over the counter. The AFC01 is about 12.6 inches wide and deep and needs overhead clearance. The COF01 needs room behind it for the plug and space around it for heat and steam.

Basket vs oven style

A basket fryer heats faster and is simpler for older kids to use. An oven-style appliance bakes, steams and roasts, but it preheats slower and costs far more. For a wider look, see air fryer vs. convection oven.

Colour and kitchen fit

The AFC01 comes in matte Black, White, Emerald Green and Storm Blue. Pick the colour that suits your counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What warranty does a Smeg air fryer come with?

UK and Australian retail listings show 24 months for the AFC01, but the US term has not been published. The COF01 carries 2 years when bought through Smeg Store, and the length depends on where you buy and whether you register it.

How does the MOC12 differ from the MOC02?

They are the same idea sold under different model names by market. The MOC02 is the UK and EU model at GBP 449.95, while the MOC12 is the US version at about $600, with the final specs and price still to be confirmed.

Is a Smeg air fryer safe for kids to use?

The AFC01 has a cool silicone handle, but its lid swings up, so keep small children clear when you open it. The COF01 adds a child safety lock.

Can a Smeg replace my microwave?

Only the MOC02 can, since it is a combi microwave. The COF01 cannot double as a microwave.

Final Verdict

With the AFC01 still months from a US launch, wait until the model number and price are confirmed for your market. If you want a full oven now, choose the COF01.
