We bought the NC501 at retail and ran it daily for six weeks, spinning a pint most days: mix, freeze flat for 24 hours, spin, judge the result, Re-spin if needed. Beyond the four tests below, we ran every remaining program family (Lite Ice Cream, Smoothie Bowl, Milkshake, Frozen Yogurt, Italian Ice, Creamiccino, Frozen Drink) plus Re-Spin.
Test 1: Classic Vanilla Ice Cream
A full-fat vanilla base is the machine's best argument: dense and scoopable on the first pass, with one Re-spin smoothing a slightly crumbly edge into soft-serve.
Test 2: Strawberry Sorbet
Frozen strawberries, a little sugar, and the Sorbet program gave a silky, bright scoop with zero ice crystals; our guide on using frozen fruit in the Ninja Creami covers the ratios.
Test 3: Chocolate Gelato
Chocolate gelato came out denser and chewier than store-bought, with no iciness.
Test 4: Mix-In (Cookie Dough Ice Cream)
The Mix-In program folded cookie dough chunks through a vanilla pint without pulverizing them, though mix-ins can land unevenly.
